Instrumental Music

Rockhampton Catholic School’s Instrumental Music Program provides instrumental music tuition to students keen to learn an instrument in the following areas:

Woodwind (Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone)

Brass (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium)

Percussion (Drums, Drumkit, Xylophone, Auxilliary Percussion)

Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass)

Guitar (Acoustic, Electric, Bass)

Piano

Voice

Tuition is available to students who are continuing their studies and also to beginners. Students wanting to complete exams can negotiate with their tutor.

A variety of instruments are available through the Emmaus Instrument Hire Program.

Lessons are provided at the school during school hours or lunchtimes (where available) by specialised instrumental music teachers. Each lesson is 40 minutes, once per week, on a rotating timetable.

Concert Band

Concert Band is the primary ensemble for all woodwind, brass, and percussion students. Rehearsals are undertaken one afternoon a week from 3:15-4:30 pm. Concert Band performs at many events throughout the year, including Eisteddfod and Turning on the Talent.

Jazz Band

 Jazz Band is a secondary ensemble for brass and saxophone students. These students must be members of the Concert Band in order to be eligible to participate in the Jazz Band. This ensemble also includes guitar, bass guitar, drumkit and piano, on an invitational basis. Rehearsals are undertaken one afternoon a week from 3:15-4:30pm. Jazz Band performs at many events throughout the year, including Eisteddfod, Turning on the Talent and Academic Awards. 

String Ensemble

String Ensemble is the primary ensemble for all students undertaking strings tuition. Rehearsals are undertaken one afternoon a week from 3:15-4:30pm. String Ensemble performs at many events throughout the year, including Eisteddfod and Turning on the Talent.

Choir 

Choir is open to all students at Emmaus College. Rehearsals are undertaken during a first lunch break once a week. Choir performs at many events throughout the year, including Eisteddfod and Turning on the Talent. Students do not need to undertake vocal tuition to be in the choir. Participation in the Choir is highly recommended for all students interested in partaking in the school Production (Musical) each year.

Drum Corps/Drumline

Drum Corps is open to all students at Emmaus College. This ensemble is open to all students at Emmaus College keen to learn a variety of marching drum patterns. Rehearsals are undertaken one morning a week from 7:15-8:15am. Drumline will perform at many events throughout the year, including Turning on the Talent.

Guitar Ensemble

Guitar Ensemble is open to all guitar at Emmaus College. Rehearsals are undertaken one morning a week from 7:15-8:15am. Guitar Ensemble will perform at many events throughout the year, including Eisteddfod and Turning on the Talent.
