A message from the Principal

Date: August 14, 2018     Posted by: Kirby Chandler

Dear members of the Emmaus Community,

On the weekend one of our former students Matthew Morris passed away. Matthew left us at the end of  Year 10 last year to peruse an apprenticeship. As a community our thoughts and prayers are with Matthew and his family.

This sad news has impacted our community and all those who knew him well. Grief affects us all in different ways and I encourage everyone to look out for each other and to support each other in this time.

I encourage us all to pray for Matthew, individually, as classes and families. Mrs Toman has written a beautiful prayer for Matthew.

As an Emmaus Community, we pray for Matthew, our friend,

and all those who mourn for him.

As a God of love and mercy,

embrace all those whose hearts today overflow with grief, loss and unanswered questions.

Grant them space to express their tears, remembering that in all times and all places you are their constant companion.

As a God of love and mercy,

send your Holy Spirit to give courage to all who mourn,

and replenish their emptiness, with happy memories, the sound of Matthew’s laughter and happier days.

As a God of love and mercy,

send your Holy Spirit to give wisdom to all who comfort,

that their words and actions will be soothing and filled with love.

As an Emmaus Community, we thank you for the life of Matthew.

He may not be walking beside us on his Emmaus  journey as he once did,

but he lives on in our collective memories.

Welcome Matthew into your loving arms and may he rest in peace.

A book of condolence is available for all members of our community to express their support for Matthew’s family. Our counselling team are also available to support all members of our community. They have also collated a number of resources that can be useful for assisting young people in a time of grief.
