Textile and Food Technologies

Home Economics is a dynamic and informative subject that has a hands-on approach to learning. Students who study this subject at Emmaus are encouraged as individuals to work co-operatively with others and develop the ability to manage problems of daily living in a practical way.

Home Economics is compulsory for all Year 7 and 8 students, then in Years 9 and 10 students choose electives that encompass food or textiles or a combination of both. These subjects incorporate an informed, action-oriented approach and therefore empowers students to be decision makers and informed members of society. The topics studied relate to food, nutrition and textiles as well as individuals, families and communities.

Students in Year 11 and 12 may choose to study the Authority Subject Home Economics, Authority Registered subjects of Hospitality or a Certificate III in Childcare.  Year 11 and 12 students are also involved in planning and preparing food for a range of functions including Mother’s Day morning tea, lunches for parents and friends and morning tea for staff.
