2023 All Schools Oztag

Over the weekend of the 28-30 July, Sunshine Coast Stadium hosted the 2023 All Schools Oztag Tournament where over 230+ teams from 80 schools competed, with the best school players state-wide representing their schools over three days of thrilling competition. Competing for only the second time, Emmaus College entered three teams; Year 7/8 Mixed, Year 9/10 Mixed and Year 11/12 Mixed. With twice as many teams entering almost every division, the competition was intense. Emmaus saw competitive performances from all their teams, including the Junior Year 7/8 Mixed Team which finished two days of Round Games in 5th position in their pool. Although the team came away with 3 wins, 3 losses, and a total of 31 tries, they were unlucky not to progress to the Quarter Finals.
Throughout the competition, the Year 7/8 Mixed team played with incredible courage and determination with competitive performances in each game. Never competing together before, and with only a couple of training sessions, this result is an outstanding accomplishment. The year 9/10 mixed team had a fantastic weekend away playing Oztag. With some new players to the game, they showed competitiveness and great sportsmanship towards opponents, refs and team mates. With over 20 teams in their division with some very experienced schools, the team finished 6th in their pool.
The Opens team started the carnival well with a win over one of the grand finalist’s from 2022. We had some very close losses in other games and it was absolutely fantastic to be competitive and come away from the carnival on a high with a very narrow loss in our last game. With quite a few injuries over the carnival, the team came together and showed so much courage and determination to make each other proud, especially after their amazing efforts with training over the last few months. Player of the carnival votes were tallied, and Kaden Bate came in first very close behind Bella Anderson and Bobby Murphy. Congratulations to all of the players on an awesome carnival!
Well done to all competitors, coaches and team managers, and an enormous thank you to Emmaus’ Sport Development Officer, Kristy McLaughlin for coordinating our participation in the event!
